In her highly anticipated memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” legendary entertainer Barbra Streisand shares a scandalous encounter with the late actor Marlon Brando.
According to Vanity Fair, who obtained an advance copy of the book, Streisand dedicates an entire chapter to her relationship with Brando, titled simply “Brando.”
The juiciest revelation comes from their very first meeting at a party in 1966.
Streisand, who was 18 years younger than Brando and had admired him since she was a teenager, claims that the notorious womanizer approached her with a vulgar proposition.
“I’d like to f— you,” Brando allegedly told her, while his third wife, French actress Tarita Teriipaia, was in the adjacent room.
Despite turning down his advances, Streisand and Brando went on to become lifelong friends.
She shares that after Brando saw her performance in the movie “Funny Girl,” he called her up to offer his critique, telling her, “You were really good, but you run funny.”
Their friendship continued over the years, with Streisand revealing to Piers Morgan in a 2012 interview that she and Brando once took a road trip to the desert in the 1970s.
Brando had wanted to “sleep over in a ghost town,” but Streisand, ever the “nice Jewish girl,” refused to stay overnight with him.
“I’ll go with you for the day,” she told him.
Nonetheless, the two remained close, often talking on the phone for hours.
A photo shared by John Travolta on Instagram in 2020 shows Streisand sitting on Brando’s lap at a party thrown in his honor at her house, confirming their enduring bond.
Brando, who passed away in 2004, was known for his tumultuous personal life.
He was married three times and had at least 11 children with multiple women.
He was also open about his sexual relationships with men, once telling a French journalist, “Homosexuality is so much in fashion, it no longer makes news.
Like a large number of men, I, too, have had homosexual experiences, and I am not ashamed.”
According to author William J. Mann in his book “The Contender: The Story of Marlon Brando,” the actor was notoriously sex-obsessed.
Brando allegedly confessed, “When I awake in the morning, the first thing I think about is, ‘Who am I going to f— today’?” even if there was a woman sleeping beside him.
Streisand’s “My Name is Barbra” promises to be a fascinating and revealing look at her life and career, with no shortage of juicy anecdotes about the famous people she’s encountered along the way.
As Streisand herself said when Vanity Fair called the Brando chapter “one of the wilder chapters” in literature, “Well, he’s Marlon Brando!”
It seems that even decades later, the legendary actor’s exploits continue to captivate and shock audiences, and Streisand’s memoir is sure to provide even more insight into their unique friendship.
