Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are making headlines again, but this time it’s not for their philanthropy or new projects.
The Hollywood Reporter, often called the “bible of Hollywood,” has labelled the couple among the “biggest losers” of the entertainment industry in 2023.
Ouch!
In a recent article, the publication outlined its assessment of Hollywood’s winners and losers, and unfortunately for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they landed on the wrong side of the list.
Showbiz expert Kinsey Schofield weighed in, explaining that Harry and Meghan likely see themselves as part of Hollywood’s elite, but the reality is quite different.
The Hollywood Reporter took aim at the couple’s Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir, Spare, describing them as “whiny.”
It’s a bit harsh, don’t you think?
The outlet suggested that their brand seems to exist in a “sanctimonious bubble,” and frankly, it’s just waiting to burst.
The article didn’t stop there; it even referenced a South Park episode that mockingly referred to Meghan and Harry as “the pin.”
That’s gotta sting.
Additionally, it revived memories of negative comments made by an executive during the couple’s Spotify deal collapse, labeling them as “grifters.” Yikes!
Discussing the ramifications on Talk TV, Schofield noted the weight that The Hollywood Reporter’s words carry in the industry.
For Harry and Meghan, this kind of criticism has to feel personal and might leave their talent agency, William Morris Endeavor (WME), scrambling for damage control.
There’s been chatter about the dynamics between Meghan and WME, but so far, no one is suggesting that the agency is planning to cut ties.
A source close to WME reassured the Daily Express US that there are currently no indications of a split.
Yet, the fallout from their recent projects has made it undeniably clear that public sentiment towards the couple has deteriorated significantly.
Their recent exposure in the book “Fury Around Endgame,” penned by royal author Omid Scobie, has thrust them back into the spotlight.
The book has drawn attention for its sharp criticism of various royal family members and, due to a mistake, sparked discussions about a sensitive topic regarding the family’s concerns about Prince Archie‘s skin color prior to his birth.
Even though Meghan and Harry have denied any involvement in this controversy, the scandal seems to have become a relentless shadow.
The media storm that emerged from it has only intensified, complicating their already rocky public image.
As if that weren’t enough, a royal photographer recently claimed that Harry has made himself a big-time loser in America.
According to Arthur Edwards, Harry’s grandiosity doesn’t match his current status; he’s just another celebrity amid a sea of stars in Hollywood.
Edwards pointed out that Harry was once someone significant back in the UK but has now been relegated to celebrity status.
The photographer added that the family drama deeply affects King Charles, who feels the absence of his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, and longs for family moments that seem far out of reach.
While the possibility of Harry reconciling with his family isn’t completely off the table—after all, who doesn’t love a good redemption story?—Edwards believes the Duke would need to extend a “big act of contrition” to King Charles before even considering a return to the UK.
Edwards seems to think that reconciliation feels pretty unlikely right now.
The trust has been broken, and with a history that leaves everyone on edge, maintaining a cordial relationship with the royals might take more than just words.
The road back appears daunting for Harry, and for now, he remains just another face in the crowd of Hollywood stars.
