In his explosive new memoir, “Spare,” Prince Harry has revealed that his brother, Prince William, warned him not to propose to Meghan Markle, fearing their relationship was moving “too fast.”
The book, which was accidentally released in Spain five days ahead of its official launch, has shed light on the growing tensions between the royal siblings.
According to Harry, William dismissed the idea of the two couples becoming “a foursome,” citing Meghan’s background as an “American actress.”
Despite Harry’s belief that their late mother, Princess Diana, had helped him “find” Meghan, William reportedly “took a step back” and cautioned his younger brother against taking things “a bit too far.”
The wedding planning process only seemed to drive the brothers further apart.
William allegedly opposed the idea of Harry and Meghan getting married at Westminster Abbey, where he and Kate Middleton had tied the knot in 2011.
He also deemed St. Paul’s Cathedral, the site of Princess Diana and King Charles‘ 1981 wedding, as “too grand” for the couple’s nuptials.
Tensions also arose between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle during this time.
Just days before the Sussex wedding, Kate reportedly texted Meghan about a “problem” with Princess Charlotte‘s bridesmaid dress.
The gown was apparently “too big, long, and baggy,” causing the young princess to burst into tears.
The alteration process allegedly led to a heated argument that left Meghan “on the floor” in tears.
Despite these challenges, Harry and Meghan went ahead with their wedding in May 2018, just over a year after they began dating.
In contrast, William and Kate had dated for eight years before tying the knot in 2011.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond recently suggested that William was right to question the pace of Harry and Meghan’s relationship, as Kate had been given ample time to adjust to royal life before marrying into the family.
Two years after their wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped away from their roles as senior royals and relocated to the United States.
The couple, now residing in California with their two children, has been estranged from the royal family since their departure.
In a series of bombshell interviews and documentaries, Harry and Meghan have launched scathing attacks on the Palace, further straining their relationship with the royal family.
During Harry’s recent visit to London for an Invictus Games celebration, he reportedly did not meet with any family members, despite his father and sister-in-law battling cancer.
However, recent reports suggest that Harry may be missing his home country and friends, as he is allegedly searching for a property in the UK.
Royal expert Jennie Bond expressed her hopes for Harry’s happiness, stating, “If I did pray, I would pray that he has a happy life now with all that he wanted – the freedom he craved, the wife he loves, and the children he adores.”
As more details emerge from Prince Harry‘s memoir, it remains to be seen how the royal family will respond to these latest revelations.
The book, which also touches on Harry’s experiences with penile frostbite and his military service in Afghanistan, is set to officially hit the shelves on January 10, 2023.
The growing rift between the once-close brothers has been a topic of public interest for years, with many speculating about the reasons behind their falling out.
While some have pointed to Meghan Markle‘s entry into the family as a catalyst, others believe that the siblings’ different personalities and roles within the monarchy have contributed to the divide.
As the world eagerly awaits the release of “Spare,” it is clear that the memoir will provide an unprecedented glimpse into the lives and relationships of the royal family.
Whether it will lead to a reconciliation between the estranged brothers or further deepen the rift remains to be seen.
