In a developing narrative within the royal family, Prince William is reportedly preparing to take significant action regarding the titles of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
It seems that the Duke of Cambridge plans to strip the Sussexes of their “His/Her Royal Highness” (HRH) titles once he ascends to the throne.
This comes on the heels of recent events that raised eyebrows, particularly involving Meghan using her royal designation in a personal context.
The Duchess of Sussex made news when a card from her surfaced online, featuring the phrase, “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” This card was shared by Jamie Kern Lima, a close friend of Meghan’s, prompting a flurry of reactions from the public and media alike.
This incident has reignited discussions about the Sussexes’ use of their royal titles, especially given their decision to step down from royal duties and offset their public roles.
In an attempt to downplay the situation, a spokesman for the Sussexes stated that they do not utilize their HRH titles.
However, insiders claim that Meghan has indeed embraced her royal status in private settings, stressing that these instances aren’t for commercial gain.
This nuanced distinction adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing narrative surrounding the couple’s titles and responsibilities.
Interestingly, while no formal laws or agreements exist to formally ban the Sussexes from using their HRH titles, the couple had previously agreed with Buckingham Palace to refrain from using “His Royal Highness” and “Her Royal Highness” publicly after March 31, 2020—an event that many now refer to as “Megxit Day.”
They maintain these styles, but they are essentially in limbo—in a similar fashion to the Duke of York, who also refrains from using his HRH title.
