Russell Crowe fights millionaire at London Restaurant, is rescued by Ross Kemp

Well, well, well, it seems like even the rich and famous can’t escape a good old-fashioned brawl!

In a shocking turn of events, Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe found himself in a scuffle with New Zealand millionaire businessman Eric Watson at the posh Zuma restaurant in London’s Knightsbridge area back in 2002.

According to reports, the two Kiwis got into a heated exchange that quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

Allegedly, it all started when Crowe, known for his roles in films like Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind, congratulated Watson on his rugby league team’s second-place finish in the NRL.

Crowe’s own team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, had finished at the bottom of the league table that year.

But here’s where things took a turn for the worse. Witnesses claim that Crowe used a derogatory term for New Zealanders, calling Watson’s team a “bunch of coconuts.”

Now, if you’re not familiar with the slang, this is a pretty offensive thing to say to a fellow Kiwi, especially coming from someone who’s made a name for himself in Hollywood.

Apparently, Watson didn’t take too kindly to the insult, and the two ended up trading blows in the restaurant’s toilets.

The fight eventually spilled out into the bar area, causing quite a commotion among the other patrons.

But fear not, dear readers, because a hero emerged amidst the chaos!

None other than former EastEnders star Ross Kemp, who happened to be dining at Zuma that night, stepped in to break up the fight. Can you imagine? Grant Mitchell himself, coming to the rescue!

According to one of Watson’s friends who spoke to the Sunday Mirror, Crowe had followed Watson into the toilets, clearly looking for a fight.

“He could tell by his tone of voice and aggressive manner that he was looking for a fight,” the friend said.

“He started laying into Eric’s club and said they were ‘a bunch of coconuts’.

This is a real insult in New Zealand – and even more of a cheek coming from an ex-pat Kiwi.”

However, it seems that Watson gave as good as he got, reportedly knocking Crowe to the ground and landing a few punches of his own. Talk about a power move!

The police were eventually called to the scene, but by that time, Ross Kemp had already separated the two men.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that they had been called to reports of an altercation involving two men believed to be in their 30s, but that no allegations of a crime were received and there were no injuries.

Speaking to the Mirror after the incident, Watson expressed his embarrassment over what had happened.

He said, “I feel pretty embarrassed about what has happened. I’m still in shock from it all.

“I want to make it clear I’m not a violent man. I’m not a thug. I’m a respectable businessman.

Now, it’s worth noting that this wasn’t the first time Crowe had been involved in a public altercation.

The actor had previously been accused of head-butting customers at a hotel bar in and had allegedly yelled at a BAFTA Awards producer in a storage cupboard after his Best Actor acceptance speech was cut short.

But let’s be real, who among us hasn’t gotten a little heated in the moment? And with tempers flaring and egos bruised, it’s not hard to see how things could have escalated so quickly between Crowe and Watson.

In the end, it seems like both men walked away relatively unscathed, thanks in no small part to the intervention of Ross Kemp. Who knows, maybe he missed his calling as a bouncer!

As for Crowe, he’s since claimed to have mellowed out in his later years, telling the Daily Mail that fatherhood has helped him find a quieter life.

“I’ve settled for a quieter life as a responsible father. I’ve grown up and I’m a family man all the way through,” he said.

Well, there you have it folks – a tale of two Kiwis, a Hollywood star, and a former soap opera actor, all coming together in one unforgettable night at a fancy London restaurant.

It just goes to show, you never know what kind of drama might unfold when you’re out for a posh dinner!
